Adios, nirvana. [Conrad Wesselhoeft] -- As Seattle sixteen-year-old Jonathan helps a dying man come to terms with a tragic event he experienced during World War II, Jonathan begins facing his own demons, especially the death of his twin. And so, Adios, Nirvana by Conrad Wesselhoeft really appealed to me on this basic level — it’s about a boy named Jonathan who is grieving the loss of his twin brother Telemachus, or Telly.

I thought that Adios, Nirvana was a sophisticated sort of YA grief book that might appeal to people who are more into the literary end of the YA spectrum.

Review: Adios, Nirvana ADIOS, NIRVANA Though there's a lot happening in this book, the narration is told so solidly from Jonathan's viewpoint that there's a huge distance between the reader and the action.

This is because Jonathan himself is quite a bit removed from things. This is a ish page book, and every page is very much set in the.

Adios, Nirvana is this author’s first book. If you love books in the style of John Green and works like The Fault In Our Stars or books geared for youth, then you might really like this series. In this debut stand alone story, readers get to meet the character of Jonathan for the first time.

Does it count as required reading if you assign a book to yourself. Even if it doesn't, I would still have to read Conrad Wesselhoeft's Adios, Nirvana. There's the guitar-o'-fire cover that alone would compel some of us to give it a read, and there's the main character's bond with his buddies -- his "thicks" -- that leaps right out at you from the novel's very first lines ("Hey, man, get down!".

That experience infuses both “Adios, Nirvana” and his second book, ’s “Dirt Bikes, Drones and Other Ways to Fly,” both published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. Both books have won accolades: The German translation of “Adios, Nirvana” was a finalist for the German Youth Literary Prize.

Seattle high-school junior Jonathan's life has turned upside down since he won a major poetry contest shortly after his twin brother's death. His hedonistic mother, who works at the Bikini Bean Espresso Drive-Thru, and his Thicks (friends) all try to support him, but he's just careening through life, fueled by Red Bull and No-Doz.

Jonathan fears sleep, when he's caught in the memories and. Adios, Nirvana is a book that portrays loss, grief, friendship and a value of life. The skeletal bone of the story is rather simple and of little meaning: a boy seeking for ways to handle his grief.

However, the complexity of the messages hidden behind its intricate, raw, brilliant writing is what makes this book important and Edition: 1st.He is the author of the young adult novels Adios, Nirvana (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, ) and Dirt Bikes, Drones, and Other Ways to Fly (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, ).
